Hello fellow freelancers,

We have a big announcement to share with you.
We have changed our name to Freelance Collective.
It is important that we explain this decision.

My intention when I first had the idea in 2017 to create this space, was that it was an all-inclusive community. This was one of the most important things to me. When deciding on a name, I wanted something that would illicit a feeling of community, camaraderie and unitedness. I chose the word tribe because, at the time, I felt it encompassed all of these ideals.

But there was always a voice in the back of my head that wasn’t sure if it was right for me to use the word tribe. I did research into the topic and I found points for and against on the usage of the word tribe. It still wasn’t clear to me, but I decided to go ahead and use it. However, that voice, and that feeling that it wasn’t quite right has never gone away and that was enough for me to know I needed to change our name. I decided, after more extensive research, that not only is it not a word for me to use, but it doesn’t foster the all-inclusive environment I want to build in this community, and so I’ve decided to change the name of Freelance Tribe to Freelance Collective.

If you’re interested in learning more about the etymology of the word tribe I recommend the following articles and also doing your own research:

I wasn’t born woke, but I do strive every day to be a better version of myself from what I was the day before. I feel ashamed at the thought that I may have offended someone or an entire group of people through my ignorance, and if I have I am truly sorry.
